THE POSITION: The Ecotoxicologist reports to the Technical Center Manager. Operating within a multi-disciplinary team environment, this individual’s primary responsibilities are to act as a Study Monitor and perform computer simulation modeling as necessary. They will interact with contract research organizations to prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, or white papers for publication. The Ecotoxicologist will interpret the study results and implications of the results, some of which may involve complex scientific issues, then communicate/present these within the company or to regulatory authorities. They will maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the art principles and theories in their area of expertise. This individual may participate in industry activities/task forces, and scientific conferences. They will use established computer simulation modeling to evaluate food chain bioaccumulation, chemical fate in the environment, or long-range transport of pesticides.
THE REQUIREMENT: The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Ecology, Theoretical Ecology, Biology or in a related field and a minimum of four years of post graduate experience in pesticide related research with demonstrated expertise and problem solving skills in the broader context of ecotoxicology in academia, government or in industry. Experience with FIFRA GLP regulations is highly desirable. This successful candidate must have some laboratory experience as well as computer simulation modeling experience with models such as PRZM-EXAMS to evaluate the environmental impact of study results to aquatic organisms, mammals, and invertebrates. This individual must have a strong understanding of statistics and statistical evaluation. Knowledge of EPA/OPPTS or OECD test guidelines for the registration of pesticides is highly desired as is experience in an area of biology, life cycle or risk assessment. The successful candidate will have excellent oral, written, interpersonal and teamwork skills as they will interact directly with EPA, contract laboratories, registration and regulatory affairs group members and upper management. Required computer skills include Microsoft Word and Excel. The successful candidate thrives and operates effectively in a highly dynamic and informal environment. They are comfortable working independently, wearing multiple hats and are able to effectively prioritize their workload. They also have the desire and inner drive to learn and grow in new areas as the opportunities present themselves within the organization. Travel is approximately 10% of the time.
THE LOCATION: an attractive northern, CA location within an hour of a metropolitan area.
