Atlanta-based Team Lead (2 vacancies), African and Western Pacific Regional Teams, Vaccine Preventable Diseases Eradication and Elimination Branch, Global Immunization Division
The Global Immunization Division (GID), National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) is seeking qualified applicants for the positions of Team Lead, African Regional (AFRO) Team, and Western Pacific (WPRO) Team in the Vaccine Preventable Disease Eradication and Elimination Branch, with responsibility for planning, directing, and organizing GID's activities in the region. This is an O-6 billet/GS-14. The ideal candidate will have expertise in the elimination/control, prevention and surveillance of vaccine preventable diseases, especially in developing country settings. The duties of this position will include the following:
· The design, implementation, and evaluation of immunization projects in the region.
· Serves as an expert on immunization surveillance programs in a developing country setting and interventions related to vaccine preventable diseases.
· Serves as an expert on programmatic and operational challenges in the field such as supervision, training, monitoring, evaluation, cold chain, logistics, and social mobilization.
· Develops and coordinates procedures to monitor research, fostering the translation of policy and research into prevention and control practices, and disseminating findings to program partners.
· Uses knowledge of technical and operational issues of the global vaccine-preventable disease programs to collaborate with other CDC programs, WHO, UNICEF, USAID, and other organizations to implement policies, programs, and funding decisions which are technically and operationally appropriate to eradicate polio, reduce measles mortality, and strengthen routine immunization.
· Represent the CDC in meetings with federal, national and international organizations, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, and foreign governments to promote and enhance vaccine preventable disease control programs.
· Supervises a team of scientific and medical professionals based in Atlanta and in the region. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
Applicants should be a Doctor of Medicine or Scientist with a strong professional background in international public health programs, with the capacity to guide a team and provide innovative leadership. Knowledge of infectious disease epidemiology is important; specific expertise in vaccine preventable disease epidemiology, surveillance, and research desirable. Expect approximately 30% international travel.
