The Project Director will serve on the staff of a NIDA-funded study: "The Men's Domestic Abuse Check-Up (MDACU)." This is a second MDACU study evaluating a telephone-delivered motivational enhancement intervention with adult males who are abusing alcohol/drugs, engaging in intimate partner violence, and are neither in counseling nor undergoing adjudication. The first MDACU study was conducted in 2006-2008. The current study will implement previously developed protocols, with revisions or enhancements to the recruitment, retention, assessment, and intervention protocols. Innovative Programs Research Group (IPRG).
The IPRG is an externally-funded entity within the School of Social Work. Funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Department of Defense (DOD) is currently supporting studies in which psychosocial interventions are being evaluated with adults in randomized controlled trials:
- Motivating Treatment Seeking and Behavior Change by Untreated Military Personnel Abusing Alcohol or Drugs. In collaboration with Ft. Lewis, this study is evaluating a brief telephone-delivered intervention with military personnel who are abusing alcohol or drugs and are not currently in treatment.
- Marijuana Dependence Treatment PRN. This study will evaluate an in-person motivational enhancement intervention with adults who are marijuana dependent.
Responsibilities:
- The Project Director will oversee all components of the study, including revisions and implementation of the marketing, data collection, and clinical functions.
- Study leadership. Working closely with the study investigators, the Project Director will contribute to decision-making concerning revisions to the study design. The Project Director will coordinate protocol revisions for recruitment and enrollment, tracking, and intervention strategies, including coordination of focus groups during the study's planning phase. The Project Director will also assist in the hiring and training of project staff, and oversee staff scheduling.
- Marketing. The Project Director will oversee all revisions to and implementation of project marketing materials for participant recruitment. The Project Director will also coordinate and supervise volunteers for event-specific recruitment efforts.
- Telephone back-up support. The Project Director will provide back-up support to the screening of incoming calls as well as other project sessions as needed.
- Assessment, Tracking, and Data Management Quality Assurance. The Project Director will supervise the Data Manager for the purpose of ensuring adherence to assessment, tracking, and data management protocols. • Participant contact person. The Project Director will be the contact pe
- on for all study participants, including overseeing reminders for phone sessions, re-scheduling telephone or in-person sessions, and trouble-shooting discrepancies with the online assessment and delivery of study materials.

Requirements:
- Completion of a masters degree in social work, psychology, sociology, public health or a related field; or bachelor's degree in social work or related field and two years of relevant experience.
- Two years of supervisory experience, particularly in randomized controlled trials or similar experience AND/OR three years experience with the direction or coordination of a multi-faceted project or program. • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
- Skillful in interpersonal relationships and working as part of a team.
- Willingness and ability to adhere to clinical and research protocols.
- Willingness to work with perpetrators of intimate partner violence. • Professional experience or familiarity with motivational interviewing and/or domestic violence dynamics.
- Experience working with clients, patients, or customers on private, sensitive or "taboo" topics.
- Experience working with word-processing and database software. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

- Knowledge and skill with motivational enhancement therapy.
- Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, particularly behavioral interventions with perpetrators of intimate partner violence.
- Experience conducting telephone interventions.
- Proficient in data analysis, including SPSS.

Condition of Employment:
- NOTE: This position will be 75-100% depending on project need.
