WithinReach is a private, non-profit organization that was formed in 1988 to serve as the foremost catalyst for improvements in maternal, child, and family health. WithinReach believes that regular access to nutritious food and health care are key components to community health. To do this, we make the connections Washington Families need to be healthy by serving over 250,000 families every year through our statewide hotlines, our website ParentHelp123.org, three statewide coalitions, the creation and distribution of health education materials, and our community outreach efforts. WithinReach is an innovative organization that values compassion, integrity and the unique perspective that each individual brings to this critical work.
AmeriCorps members provide education, information, referrals and application assistance for food and health programs including Basic Food and health insurance through in-person outreach and over the phone (Healthy Connections Online). Members also provide resource navigation services, connecting individuals to community-based resources such as job training programs, summer meal sites, food banks, maternal-child health programs, free and low-cost medical clinics, transportation and utility assistance programs. Using iPad technology, service members connect clients with what they need on the spot at food banks, community services office, job-training centers, community clinics, libraries, service hubs like Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites, and community fairs. The AmeriCorps then assist these individuals throughout the application and referral process by providing support and follow-up services. Finally, members train, manage, and mobilize community volunteers to connect low-income individuals and families with WithinReach resources.
