Associate Industrial Hygienist - California Department of Public Health

The Occupational Health Branch at the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) will soon be filling an Associate Industrial Hygienist civil service position located in Richmond, California (SF Bay Area). The position will focus on protecting first responders, other workers, and community members from exposures due to chemical releases and other disasters.Skills/Eligibility:
One year of experience in the California state service performing the duties of an Assistant Industrial Hygienist.
Three years of increasingly responsible professional or technical experience in identifying, evaluating, and controlling health hazards in work places, and developing, evaluating and implementing occupational and environmental health standards. This experience shall include at least two years in a position comparable in level, responsibility, and duties to that of an Assistant Industrial Hygienist in the California state service. (A Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Health, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a closely related curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required general experience. A Master’s Degree in Industrial Hygiene or Occupational Health, acquired in a two-year master’s degree program including planned work experience, may be substituted for two years of required general experience).
Equivalent to graduation from college with major work in industrial hygiene, environmental health, environmental engineering, chemistry, biology, physics, medicine, public health, or in a field directly related to occupational or environmental health and safety. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Civil service jobs require a 2-step process: 1) apply to get on a CDPH civil service hiring list for a classification for which you are eligible; and 2) wait to be notified of vacancies for that classification, then apply for that specific job and the interview process conducted by the hiring supervisor.
