Research Coordinator

Initiative for Research and Education to Advance Community Health

Washington State University Health Sciences  

The Scientific Assistant will assist the Principal Investigator (PI) in performing laboratory and field research. The primary duties of this position will be to define research problems, defining approaches or hypothesis and methodology, design specific phases of research projects, carrying complex analyses, analyzing results, developing conclusions and hypotheses, and/or presenting research findings in publishable form.

Required Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. A Master’s degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline may be substituted for up to one year of the required work experience.

Additional Requirements: Experience working independently.  Demonstrated experience using problem solving skills.  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite products.  Demonstrable experience developing, managing, or maintaining research databases.  Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.  Must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion to meet the needs of the project.  A valid driver’s license and insurance is required at time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with people with alcohol use disorders, and/or serious mental illness.  Experience conducting substance abuse research. Experience managing staff.  Experience managing research studies.  Experience with online surveys or databases.  Experience preparing reports to National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).  Experience preparing technical reports and manuscripts.  Experience authoring professional presentations or peer reviewed publications.
