The Hazardous Waste and Toxics Reduction (HWTR) program within the Department of Ecology is looking to fill a Toxics Reduction Specialist (Environmental Specialist 4) (In-Training) position. The position will be housed in our Northwest Regional Office (NWRO) in Bellevue, Washington.

The Toxics Reduction Specialist position serves as a section senior environmental specialist that will be providing technical assistance to businesses and dedicating their time to pollution prevention and safer chemical alternative selection. This is a priority for the HWTR Program due to high demand of pollution prevention and toxic waste reduction services within the northwest region.

Skills/Eligibility:


At the Environmental Specialist 4 Level: Salary Range 55 – ($4,085 - $5,355 Monthly)(Goal Class)

A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, toxicology, or other related health and ecological science and five years of professional-level experience, of which two years must be in industrial or environmental fields. Equivalent experience may include one year equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above or two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 2 or above. 

OR

A Master’s degree in one of the above fields and three years of professional-level experience as required above. Equivalent experience may include one year equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above or two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 2 or above.

OR

A Ph.D. in one of the above fields and two years of professional-level experience as required above. Equivalent experience may include one year equal to an Environmental Specialist 3 or above or two years equal to an Environmental Specialist 2 or above.

OR

Two years of experience as an Environmental Specialist 3. 

*Additional qualifying experience may substitute, year for year, for education.


At the Environmental Specialist 3 Level: Salary Range: 49 – ($3,522 - $4,623 Monthly)(In-training)

A Bachelor’s degree involving major study in environmental, toxicology, or other related health and ecological science and two years of professional level experience, of which one year must be in industrial or environmental fields.

OR

A Master’s degree in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of the required experience.  

OR

A Ph.D. in one of the above fields.

OR

One year of experience as an Environmental Specialist 2. 

*Additional qualifying experience will substitute, year for year, for education.
