The Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) works to improve the health of people in Washington State by reducing and preventing human exposures to a variety of environmental hazards and diseases associated with the treatment and disposal of wastewater, the food we eat, the schools our children attend, and the places we recreate and overnight.
As the Lodging Health and Safety Specialist, you will serve as an expert in transient accommodation facility (hotel/motel) inspections and complaint investigations, and may be a lead worker for other health inspectors. You will have the opportunity to evaluate the physical environment for safety and health issues. Issues are determined by interviewing facility staff and occupants; and by reviewing facility documents, policies and procedures.
• A Bachelor’s degree or higher in environmental public health, food science, environmental science or an allied field.
• Three (3) or more years of progressive experience in public health, including one (1) or more years of experience in a consultative, supervisory, administrative or advisory capacity.
• Demonstrated experience effectively using MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge in the following:
o Principles, practices, organization and objectives of environmental health statutes and rules related to environmental health.
o Bacteriology, vector control, and educational principles and techniques.
