These are Regulatory Officer (Investigator/Consumer Safety Officer) positions within the ORA Office of Human and Animal Food Operations East, Division 1, Investigations Branch. The Human and Animal Food (HAF) Program represents and makes decisions relative to human and animal program investigatory operations including emergency response activities and international affairs. HAF coordinates and manages all domestic and foreign field investigatory operations related to human and animal food regulated by the FDA.
As a entry-level Regulatory Officer (Investigator/Consumer Safety Officer), the officer
- Receives advanced training, through classroom and on-the-job instruction, to provide a more thorough
understanding of and exposure to FDA laws and regulations, administrative policies, manufacturing
processes, good manufacturing practices, and the various methods employed in the conduct of
establishment inspections, sample collections and special investigations.
- Collects samples and conducts field analyses involving weighing, measuring insect infestation, and
counting etc. Traces involved transactions and establishes identity and jurisdiction of transactions not
covered by existing records
- Prepares written reports showing results of the inspection/investigation and submits to the supervisor
or higher graded investigator for review and evaluation
Duties and responsibilities will progress in complexity commensurate with position grade. Regulatory
Officers in the O-4 position grade conduct the more complex, technical investigations and inspections of
establishments in the area of assigned responsibility.
These positions may require frequent travel. Regulatory Officers in the O-4 position grade are required
to conduct foreign travel to support the FDA Foreign Inspection Program.
- Current PHSCC officer within the categories indicated, free of any duty station commitment and actual

- Must possess a valid, unrestricted driver’s license
