As the Director of the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS), you lead the office and provide supervision and leadership to approximately 77 dedicated and well trained staff including five Washington Management Service (WMS) managers, highly technical supervisors, professional engineers, technical staff, and administrative staff located in Tumwater and Spokane, Washington. You are responsible for an annual budget of approx. $21 million that includes General Funds, State Dedicated Funds, Fee, Federal Funds, and interagency agreement reimbursements.
OEHS represents a diverse set of programs that link strongly to other elements of our environmental public health system that includes tribes, local health, other agencies, our industry groups, and community partners. Self-awareness and superior relationship-building skills are essential. We demonstrate ethics and integrity through our actions; the Director will lead by example.
The mission of OEHS is to improve the health of the people in Washington by reducing and preventing, human exposures to a variety of environmental hazards and disease pathogens. Our programs work across the public health system on treatment and disposal of wastewater, the food we eat, the schools our children attend, and the places we recreate and overnight.
- Five (5) or more years of progressive experience successfully leading and managing environmental or environmental public health programs.
- Five (5) or more years of successful supervisory experience.
- Two (2) or more years of working or leading regulatory programs.
