A Senior Toxicologist provides support in the areas of toxicology, risk assessment, and industrial hygiene. The successful candidate will also perform in the role of project technical director in the areas of toxicology, risk assessment, industrial hygiene, environmental science and/or emergency response. A Senior Toxicologist will assemble, prepare, and analyze data concerning occupational toxicological, environmental and human health risk assessments related to a large legacy chemical and radiological waste site. Utilizing knowledge of various scientific disciplines, he/she may conduct detailed analysis of occupational chemical exposure data and develop risk communication pieces. The Senior Toxicologist position is full-time and is located in Richland, Washington.

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE
The primary goal of the position is to serve as a toxicology and risk communication subject matter expert to a client located near Richland, Washington. This position is full-time. The specific job duties will include:
1. Provide technical support to the client in matters of occupational toxicology
2. Engage in routine risk communication interactions with workers and management in various trades working at the client’s worksite. Various trades include industrial hygienists, health physics technicians, pipefitters, steel workers, carpenters, electricians, etc.

3. Answer worker generated questions related to general toxicology and potential health effects from chemical and radiological waste
4. Communicate toxicology and biology principles related to odors and higher concentration vapors
5. Develop communication, training documents and presentations related to occupational toxicology for workers and management
6. Present on subjects related to chemical and radiological waste exposure and toxicology to workers and management
7. Consult with Occupational Health Contractors on issues related to risk communication
8. Perform detailed analysis of existing industrial hygiene data to inform potential past exposures and exposure patterns
9. Actively work to identify additional toxicological, workplace safety, and environmental consulting opportunities on the work site that may present an expansion of CTEH work scope and personnel presence.

 

Skills/Eligibility:

• Doctorate degree in Toxicology and greater than 8 years of related work experience; and,
• Skilled with data management and word processing software including advanced computer skills in a Windows-based platform.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure;
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions; and,
• Possess strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.

CERTIFICATION/OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• HAZWOPER certification (Preferred)
• Current driver’s license (Required)
• DABT or CIH certification (Preferred)
• Completion of all job specific OSHA training
• Ability to comply with all job specific OSHA requirements, including the wear of a respirator
