Room One is hiring a Youth and Community Development Lead, an Organizer or Managerial position, dependent on applicant experience (.85 FTE), responsible for engaging youth and the broader community in addressing health disparities that lead to teen pregnancy. This position will be based in Twisp with regular travel across Okanogan County. Duties and will include working with youth in juvenile detention, organizing coalitions to build county services for youth, and facilitating opportunities for youth leadership. Job Title: Youth and Community Development Lead, an Organizer or Managerial position, dependent on applicant experience

FTE: .85 to .9 (35+/- hours, weekly)

Reports to: Associate Director

General Description: The Youth and Community Development Lead, an Organizer or Managerial position dependent on applicant experience, is responsible for forwarding strategies of Room One’s Okanogan Healthy Youth initiative to improve the social and health determinants that lead to teen pregnancy and related health disparities for our community’s most marginalized youth. This position will work on topics such as access to reproductive healthcare, supportive programs for youth involved in juvenile justice, and developing services for homeless youth; and will be a fearless advocate for Room One’s goal of preventing gender-based violence and building health equity across the regions we serve. Dependent on the applicant, this position could also comprise leadership responsibilities, including developing and directing strategy to forward this initiative and related work in Okanogan County, and supporting the overall mission, vision and strategies of Room One.

Core Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1.       Youth and Community Engagement
  •         Promote the Okanogan Healthy Youth initiative throughout the designated community and represents the agency at events and meetings
  •         Facilitate Youth Leadership Council meetings and activities and other community and youth engagement strategies to forward the goals of the Collaborative
  •         Implement communications strategies that build awareness and understanding of the social determinants of teen pregnancy and related health disparities, and community will for developing solutions
  •         Develop and maintain high quality relationships with youth participants and community stakeholders
  •         Facilitate and/or oversee psycho-educational youth support groups and other strategies focused on supporting youth experiencing disproportionately high rates of social and health risk
  •         Advocate for youth participants by referring them to other community services and linking to health resources as needed
  •         Acknowledge and respond effectively to program participants using trauma-informed care best practices
  •         Provide technical assistance, training, and co-facilitation support to partners to ensure a pipeline of resources and services for marginalized youth
  •         For Organizer position: Support the implementation of OAH Evidence-Based Interventions and ensure programs are presented with fidelity, medically accurate, culturally relevant and LGBTQ inclusive
  •         For Managerial position: Develop and lead strategy to improve health indicators for Okanogan County’s most marginalized youth
  1.           Program Development
  •         Support evaluation process by collecting accurate data and working directly with the program management team;
  •         Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications and establishing networks;
  •         Participate in larger Room One initiatives as appropriate;
  •         Maintain job knowledge by attending meetings and trainings as required;
  •         Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization by adhering to established policies & practices.
  •         For Managerial position: In coordination with the OHY team, build strategy for the Okanogan Healthy Youth collaborative; support the overall mission, vision and strategies of Room One

Desired Qualifications:

·         Extensive experience with youth development and/or youth and community organizing; experience organizing youth around social & health disparities preferred

·         Experience designing and implementing programs in rural communities

·         Ability to engage and inspire diverse stakeholders

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills

·         Experience with trauma-informed care and positive youth development approaches preferred

·         For Managerial position: Experience leading social change efforts within a non-profit organization or similar
