Description:

The Research and Data Analysis Division (RDA) of the Washington Department of Social and Health Services is seeking a Survey Research Manager. This unit is responsible for the strategic development, design, and implementation of centralized systems for survey and performance management information for executive management and program managers in DSHS and other state human services agencies.

The Survey Research Manager will interpret and report survey findings, develop new surveys, and contribute to the management of ongoing projects.

Projects vary greatly in scope and impact, from informal assessment within small workgroups to complex telephone surveys that involve multiple state agencies and large client populations. Many of our surveys involve extensive qualitative analysis of open-ended data. Major projects include biennial comprehensive surveys of employees and clients, an annual survey of foster parents and family care providers, and the National Youth in Transition Database survey.

This position directly impacts policy and practice throughout the Department and in multiple other state agencies, as leadership uses performance and survey data to set strategic directions, improve client outcomes, and manage state resources effectively.

Some of what you’ll do

  • Work with program partners and teammates to develop questionnaires and research plans
  • Lead research teams in producing high quality research deliverables that will inform decisions made at all levels of the agency
  • Contribute to research teams led by other staff members
  • Prepare presentations and present survey findings to managers and executive leadership
  • Participate in the continuous improvement of our processes, products, and team

Who should apply

Research professionals who have an earned Ph.D. or doctoral candidate in ABD status (all-butdissertation) in Social or Behavioral Sciences or a related field, with at least two years’ experience conducting policy-relevant surveys and research; OR Master’s degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences or a related field with at least 4 years’ experience conducting policy-relevant surveys and research.

 

Applicants Should Have

  • Ability to provide reliable, professionally sound, scientifically valid advice, consultation andtechnical assistance to high-level leadership, based on research findings at an advanced level ofexpertise - to guide planning, program, and policy.Advanced training in multivariate statistical methods, sampling, and research designs
  • Authorship of three or more published reports or articles detailing policy relevant research findings based on scientific survey or research designs
  • Ability to present complex ideas and information to a variety of audiences - both in written and presentation format, and to explain complex or technical information using plain talk principles
  • Expertise in SAS, SPSS, STATA or other advanced statistical analysis software
