The University of Washington’s School of Public Health (SPH) is one of the nation’s premier schools of public health. With a growing student body of undergraduates and more than 800 graduate students, the School’s academic, research and service missions are supported by 250 voting faculty and more than 500 staff who work within five academic departments – Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, Epidemiology, Global Health (joint with the School of Medicine), Health Services – and the Office of the Dean. 

The School of Public Health has an outstanding opportunity for a Adviser & Career Development Coordinator.  This full-time position serves as an integral member of a dynamic student services team as an Adviser & Career Development Coordinator.  The position serves as both an adviser to students in the Public Health-Global Health major as well as coordinator of career development programs. 

Skills/Eligibility:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of experience working in a university setting. 

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work with faculty, staff, students, and the public 
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for working with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds 
  • Ability to adapt to new systems and translate for students the complex and growing undergraduate and graduate degree programs and curriculum of the Public Health-Global Health major and other programs of the SPH 
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills 

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration. 

    DESIRED: 
  • Master’s degree in public health, student affairs, education, social work, or related field. 
  • Experience in career advising, coaching, counseling, or other related roles. 
  • Ability and flexibility to work independently in a team environment juggling multiple responsibilities 
  • Creative, self-starter who has the ability to react to changing needs 
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for high school, community college, and/or early college outreach 
  • Familiarity with and commitment to the mission and values of public health 
  • Understanding of, commitment to, and experience with supporting the needs of marginalized, underrepresented, and first-generation college students
