This positions leads, manages, and supervises the staff of the Substance Abuse Epidemiology Section, which is in the Epidemiology and Response Division, and focuses on drug and alcohol overdose and misuse in NM.  It develops, plans and coordinates studies on these public health issues, assuring that epidemiologist staff develop and analyze data, conduct studies and prepare and disseminate reports related to drug overdose and alcohol misuse and their prevention. It assures that employees in the Section conduct ongoing surveillance and present, disseminate, and publish data and reports and publications including periodic state-level and national-level reports and that they continually improve their abilities as epidemiologists, including presenting at national meetings. It also manages activities and consultation demands in the SAE Section and assures timely responses, providing that the staff work in an integrated manner both within the Section and with other organizations to conduct surveillance of substance abuse injury and its consequences in NM and recommend effective interventions. This job entails leadership, management, and supervision, both direct and indirect, for approximately six epidemiologist positions, including assignment and review of work products, and also functions as a working epidemiologist.
