Positions purpose is to reduce the incidence and severity of the results of alcohol injury and death in NM. Incumbent conducts complex public health surveillance of alcohol misuse and its health consequences by developing, maintaining, and enhancing reports, and by providing alcohol-related information for reports, presentations, and collaborations to support efforts to reduce alcohol injury in New Mexico. Incumbent helps ti enhance alcohol-related epidemiology at the national level, including collaborating with the CDC alcohol program, other state-based alcohol epidemiologists, and participating in the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists alcohol committee. In addition, position provides support for community health programs (especially those who be at increased risk of acute and chronic injury due to alcohol misuse) particularly health councils and regional public health staff, by preparing and disseminating special alcohol-related reports and special alcohol-related studies of relevance to NM, and by collaborating with other NM public health practitioners, task forces, and steering committees.
