Communications Specialist - REACH - Multnomah County Health Department

The Communications Specialist will serve as lead for all the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) Program communications related deliverables and activities. This position will work cross-divisionally to support and inform Multnomah County Health Division wide strategies and REACH contracted partners to develop and implement policy, environment, and systems-based change strategies to slow and reduce determinants of health disparities including but not limited to obesity and chronic diseases (i.e. heart disease, stroke, cancer, and diabetes).
This would include utilizing effective strategies from the County’s internal and external subject matter experts representing the population served. This position will largely focus on public health communications related to policy and programs, relating to nutrition, physical activity and community-clinical linkage within the Black/African American and African Immigrant/Refugee communities.
The Communications Specialist will work under the supervision of the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) Program Manager and with the REACH team to ensure the timely delivery of the overarching activities and strategies related to the REACH Grant.
This position requires a strong understanding of public health and behavioral change communications and the latest trends and technology relating to communications. This position requires the ability to grasp the REACH program goals and requirements, develop social media and communications strategies through the REACH theory of change and public health approaches. Essential responsibilities include project management, content writing, development, implementation and execution of communication plans. This position requires the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationship with staff, partners, and stakeholders through clear and concise written and oral communication (including public presentations) and reach consensus on most matters.
The ability to keep the big picture in mind while, while engaging diverse range of stakeholders and keeping projects on track to achieve timelines and goals is essential for this role.
