MPH Practicum - Opportunities and Resources

Looking for a place to do your practicum? The following resources may help get you started in the process of finding your perfect practicum.

All MPH students must complete the practicum requirement before being awarded a professional master's degree. Students must complete a minimum of 120 hours in a planned and supervised practice experience.

If you have any questions about the practicum or the following sites please contact Amanda Graybill-Pennington, Assistant Director of Student Affairs at agpen@uw.edu.

To see the type of work students have done at their practicum sites in the past check out the Abstract Book and the Practicum Profiles page.

Campus Resources for Learning about Potential Practicum Sites

  • The office of Student Affairs in the School of Public Health (F363) has books and knowledgeable staff to help you brainstorm getting started on your practicum.
  • Search for faculty who do the kind of work you want to do on the SPH website.
  • The UW Career Center has great resources.
  • The Carlson Center on campus provides information and resources for students participating in service learning or community-based initiatives. The Center primarily works with undergraduates, but has information for graduate students and might be able to point you to funding for the kind of practicum you hope to do. It is located in Mary Gates Hall.
  • If your practicum is international in scope, the Global Health Resource Center might have information on where you can seek funding. Contact Daren Wade at dwade@uw.edu, or stop by the office in T433.
