Postdoctoral Scholar - University of California, Irvine
The Department of Epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a full-time position in the Postdoctoral Scholar Series. The selected candidate will contribute to and lead research centered on aging, obesity and cardiometabolic diseases funded by the NIH. This is a rich research opportunity to gain significant epidemiologic research-related experience on cutting edge topics.
The focus and responsibilities for part of this position will be to conduct advanced data analyses using electronic health record data to examine the association between type 2 diabetes and dementia in an underserved population. The selected candidate will work with the principal investigators, other project faculty, and the rest of the research team to help achieve the project aims. They will help drive the research project forward from inception to publication while acquiring analytical skills and exploring new areas of investigation. The major responsibilities will include formulating the statistical analysis plans, conducting data analyses, preparing conference abstracts and presentations, and manuscript writing/publishing. The publication of research results in high-quality journals and national and international conferences is expected.
In addition to this project, the researcher will have the opportunity to participate in a similar manner on another research project that focuses on the causes and cardiometabolic consequences of abdominal adipose tissue deposition patters in long term prospective studies. This research is also housed within the Department of Epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine.
Preferred Qualifications - Previous research experience related to obesity, cardiometabolic diseases, aging, or Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD) is desired but not required.
Requirements - Applications are being sought from candidates who own a PhD/DrPH/ScD in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, or related fields from a college or university accredited by a USDOE, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization; as well as a record of publications in previous research areas. Candidates should have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong quantitative/analytical research skills, experience using SAS, STATA, or R for both data management and analysis, and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team with collaborators.
Positions are dependent upon extramural funding. Initial appointments are for one year and renewal is based upon performance and availability of support. Compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
