Join our Health Equity team as a Program Manager. This is a Regular, Full-time position (1.0) FTE.
Some of what you’ll do:
- Provide visible leadership within the department and the community on disparate health outcomes, the social determinants of health, the impacts of systemic structures on health outcomes, and the broad policy and community changes needed to achieve health equity.
- Plan, develop, implement, and monitor the health department’s internal effort to ensure that health equity is addressed in all policies, programs and funding decisions within TPCHD.
- Work collaboratively across the department to coordinate and focus multiple department efforts to improve health equity.
- Lead work to establish multi-sector collaborations and relationships with diverse communities experiencing health inequities.
- Lead work with community leaders, businesses, professionals, and elected officials to promote a Health in All Policies approach to advancing health equity.
- Lead and model community engagement strategies designed to expand community ownership and control over local efforts to improve health outcomes.
- Subject matter expert for participatory planning and budgeting and health equity.
- Serve as subject matter expert and provide content for internal and external health equity communications, including media opportunities.
- Work with TPCHD Office of Assessment, Planning and Improvement to collect, generate and distribute local data and maps that tell the story of health inequities in Pierce County.
- Use data, mapping and a quality planning approach to devise strategies that will result in a ’health in all policies’ approach within external organizations (such as financial institutions, businesses, school districts), elected governing bodies such as City and County Councils and governmental departments.
- Based on community and department priorities, work for local, state and national changes in policy, programs and services to impact the social determinants of health.
- Under the Public Health Centers for Excellence lead seminars and trainings on equity issues and strategies to increase community engagement.
- Hire,manage and evaluate staff, as appropriate.
- Participate in the TPCHD partnership with Spokane Regional Health called Public Health Centers for Excellence.
- Develop marketing campaigns and deliver speaking engagements related to health equity and community inclusion in decision making.
- Participate in development of business proposals, national networking, and revenue generating activities.
- Provide training and consultation to customers.

What you bring to the table:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of program or project management and evaluation.
- Knowledge of and skill in providing effective leadership, direction and supervision.
- Knowledge related to a specific program or project may be required which may include the ability to apply understanding of disparate health impacts on race and poverty.

Who should apply:
Bachelor’s degree and five years experience in a public health, social service, environmental health, public policy, education or other relevant field.
- Master degree and five years of relevant experience in public health, social service, environmental health, public policy, education or other relevant field.
- Experience convening and facilitating diverse community groups to address public health or social challenges.
- Experience working on social determinants of health, health equity or institutional racism issues.
- Experience successfully partnering with diverse communities to achieve identified goals.
- Public presentation and public speaking experience.
- Experience successfully managing complex projects.
- Experience moving ideas into policy and action.
Required Certifications and Licensure
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract is required prior to employment.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Work Setting: Work is performed primarily indoors in an office environment. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in government office environments and community gathering spaces.
Physical Demands: None.
Tools and Equipment: Duties require the use of standard office furniture and equipment (e.g., desk, filing cabinet, computer, printer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.)
Travel: Driving a vehicle requiring a license. Some travel is required, and is typically local or regional, to meet with customers or community members, conduct business, or attend or provide training. Occasional out-of-state travel may be required.
When public health responds to an emergency you may be assigned duties that are outside your regular job desc
