Epidemiologist 3 – Evaluation Unit Supervisor - Washington State Department of Health
The mission of the Surveillance and Evaluation (S&E) section is to provide strategic information to guide policy and programs that serve the populations in Washington State. S&E gathers, analyzes, interprets and reports on data that describes the health status, health care, behaviors, and other pertinent issues related to health.
Under the direction of the section manager, this position provides program evaluation and epidemiologic leadership, coordination, and expertise. This position leads and supervises the Evaluation Unit; a team of epidemiologists and assessment staff with a focus on needs assessment and evaluation for maternal and child programs and grants, including the Maternal and Child Health Block Grant. The position also serves as a subject matter expert on program evaluation design, analysis, and interpretation to the Office of Family and Community Health Improvement (OFCHI) staff and agency leadership. The Evaluation Unit works in partnership with other program staff in OFCHI as well as the other units in S&E, including the Surveillance Unit and Home Visiting Unit.
This position is within the Division of Prevention and Community Health (PCH). - Mentor employees on program evaluation, epidemiologic methods and agency policies.
- Work with the section manager to identify program evaluation and epidemiologic needs of the office.
- Participate in office and division-level manager meetings.
- Lead program evaluation efforts by designing and developing evaluation plans, conducting needs assessments, developing data collection tools and performance measures; and working with federal partners to collect and manage data.
- Provide epidemiologic leadership and expertise to sections and programs within the office.
- Analyze and interpret health data.
- Disseminates scientific and public health information through writing, editing, and submitting reports.
What we’re looking for
Success in this position requires one to be a team player, defined as having a driving passion for the work, bringing humility to their job and people interactions, and understanding how their words and actions affect others.
- Master’s degree in epidemiology, with 12 quarter units of biostatistics or equivalent, and 12 quarter units of epidemiology/research methods or equivalent;
- Three (3) years of experience in epidemiology or program evaluation;
- Two (2) years of experience leading teams.
- Master’s degree in public health or related field, with 12 quarter units of biostatistics or equivalent, and 12 quarter units of epidemiology/research methods or equivalent;
- Five (5) years of experience in epidemiology or program evaluation;
- Two (2) years of experience leading teams.
- Two (2) years of experience supervising teams doing epidemiology, research or evaluation.
- Three (3) years of experience in maternal and child health epidemiology.
- Doctoral degree in epidemiology.
- Five (5) years of experience in epidemiology.
