Description:

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) is seeking
an Epidemiologist to lead a program of epidemiologic research on diabetes within the
Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases (DDEM). The DDEM
supports and provides leadership for research on the causes, prevention and treatment of
diabetes and its complications, as well as other endocrine and metabolic diseases.
The Program Director for Diabetes Epidemiology will play an active role in stimulating
new research and managing ongoing grant portfolios focused on understanding the
epidemiology of diabetes to understand the burden of diabetes in the U.S. and inform
development of more effective and targeted/personalized interventions to prevent and treat
diabetes. In addition to the scientific and administrative oversight of grants funded by
DDEM, the Program Director will be responsible for developing joint research activities
and partnerships with other NIH Institutes and other government agencies, including the
development and analysis of national surveys used to collect data about diabetes in the U.S.

Skills/Eligibility:

The applicant should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in Epidemiology and should have diabetes
or diabetes relevant research experience. The applicant should have a grounding in biologic
science and epidemiologic methodology including the understanding of study design,
sampling strategies, and statistical approaches for data analysis. Experience with large data
sets or data from electronic health records is highly desirable. Applicants must be U.S.
Citizens.
