GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Executive Director is responsible for Room One’s consistent achievement of its mission. In strong collaboration with staff and Board of Directors, key duties include implementing and evaluating mission-aligned programs, managing its internal operations and strategic vision, developing its financial capacities and organizational model, and representing the organization to governing bodies, partners, donors, and the general public

Room One is a health services and advocacy organization based in the remote Methow Valley of Okanogan County. To achieve our vision of a connected community in which all people have the opportunity thrive, we utilize an approach that meets immediate needs and challenges our community to get upstream of health inequities related to intimate partner violence and poverty. This dynamic approach includes 1) direct individual and family services, 2) prevention education, and 3) advocacy for systems change. Because those most marginalized are at disproportionate risk for poor health outcomes, we position our organization to respond to the unique needs and build on the strengths of our local community.

PROFILE OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR:

  • Brings a passion for rural health and a commitment to social justice for those most marginalized and affected by violence and poverty in our community

  • As a key ambassador and inspiring voice of Room One, has exceptional verbal and written communication skills to tell the story of our work and activate our community

  • Champions Room One’s highly collaborative approach to community building, and its shared leadership model across staff, board, and community

  • Deftly manages a multitude of tasks

  • Has solid fundraising experience and can act as a compelling voice of Room One

  • Manages and supervises a high-functioning staff, while delegating effectively and supporting an impassioned, creative staff culture

  • Actively engages, develops and supports a strong Board of Directors, building collaborative leadership to move Room One towards its visio

Skills/Eligibility:
  • Extensive professional experience in social work, human services, or related field and non-profit administration

  • Aptitude for fundraising and development and demonstrated record of success in grant writing and major donor relationships

  • Experience in communicating effectively with and supporting Board of Directors

  • Excellent and extensive staff management and supervision skills

  • Commitment to fundamental values underlying community organizing and shared leadership

  • Strong ability to read, understand and analyze finances

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: able to inspire supporters and staff and communicate complex ideas with clarity

  • Listens well and strongly values staff, board, and community input

  • Seasoned in strategic development and building highly effective teams

  • Sound judgment in assessing information and decisions that impact Room One purpose, priorities, reputation, fiscal stewardship, and long-term sustainability

  • Able to remain calm under pressure and to manage conflict effectively

  • Experience reporting to and advising a board of directors

  • Expertise in exploring and analyzing the intersections of our social identities and locations (including race, ethnicity, class, ability, age, sexual identity, gender, and gender) in order to deliver comprehensive and inclusive programming and inspire staff and board to do the same
