Cancer Research And Biostatistics (CRAB) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to help conquer cancer.  The tools and expertise we bring to clinical trials development include biostatistical principles, oncology clinical trials expertise, data management and monitoring capabilities, electronic data capture solutions, education, support, and training. 

Position Summary:

The Director of Business Development is responsible for the implementation of CRAB’s business development strategy.  This position will identify and research new potential customers and key target partners, follow up on all customer leads, promote and support CRAB to clients, develop a compelling presentation for clients, and maintain and foster key relationships. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Sources and fosters new business relationships to achieve CRAB’s strategic directives by generating leads, creating proposals, creating and supporting presentations to clients, responding to Request For Proposals (RFPs), and achieving organizational revenue goals
  • Coordinates timely follow-up with external parties and communicates customer expectations to internal teams throughout the customer procurement and project lifecycle
  • Professionally represents and promotes CRAB at networking events including evening/weekend and occasional industry conferences
  • Maintains and updates Business Development report on a weekly basis and presents to leadership on a regular basis
  • Establishes and develops collaborative working relationships with external business partners
  • Acts as a liaison between executive management, program and project management, operations staff involved in client services, and key stakeholders
  • With CRAB’s CFO and COO, manages the negotiation and execution of confidentiality agreements, research and service agreements, collaborative agreements and other contracts as needed
  • Provides management oversight on all contracting activity from start to full execution across the business portfolio while ensuring compliance to policy
  • Interfaces with CRAB’s Finance department throughout the customer procurement lifecycle
  • Directs and contributes to the preparation and submission of budget proposals for contracts
  • Manages electronic and paper filing systems of all related documentation and correspondence
  • Documents the development of new customer relationships and maintains a contact database of potential customers
  • Performs other duties as related to providing quality program direction and to the mission, goals, and values of CRAB 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, life sciences or related field
  • Minimum of five years of experience in business development in life sciences, oncology, clinical trials, diagnostics, statistics or data management
  • Minimum of three years of experience in project management
  • Excellent communicator with clients and internal groups
  • Comfortable working with a diverse group of individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire clients, create proposals, and meet revenue goals
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend networking events
  • Ability to travel to occasional conferences and other events 

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in life science, statistics or business administration
  • Proficiency with contract language
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and clients
  • Excellent client service skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of market competition
  • Experience in the use of Salesforce
  • Spanish language skills a plus

This is a full-time position and is Exempt from state and federal overtime regulations. 

Employment authorization is required.

Travel/relocation expenses will not be provided for this position.
