Multiple vacancies for epidemiologists at all levels! All positions are 100% telework. We strongly prefer candidates be Washington State residents, but can be flexible for in some situations.

NOTE:  Salary listed includes 5% premium pay for duty station being in King County and also includes the 3% Legislative approved general wage increase effective July 1, 2020.  

  • Senior Epidemiologist (Non-Medical) – Pay Range 76: $7,952.70 - $10,433.85 Monthly
  • Epidemiologist 3 (Non-Medical) – Pay Range 71:  $7,025.55 – $9,221.10 Monthly 
  • Epidemiologist 2 (Non-Medical) – Pay Range 67:  $6,366.15 – $8,354.85 Monthly 
  • Epidemiologist 1 – Pay Range 61:  $5,490.45 – $7,205.10 Monthly


The Opportunities

These positions will support the agency’s COVID-19 response by supporting public health emergency preparedness and response activities.  This work supports the agency’s Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) grant with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  
 

  • The Senior Epidemiologist (Non-Medical) positions will support priority capacity in the COVID-19 response by serving as section, unit or team leads . These positions contribute to the COVID-19 mission by providing leadership and direction to response activities. Manage daily external relationships to support ongoing internal response needs. Provide mission and vision to drive continued state-level response needs. Maintain situational awareness on evolving epidemiology of coronavirus response globally to inform local-level response efforts. Lead epidemiological needs in collaboration with internal divisions and offices across the agency and external partners as necessary. Design and implement objectives and strategies that increase public health and medical response capabilities across the state in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic within the parameters of the grant funding and based on program goals.

 

  • The Epidemiologist 3 (Non-Medical) positions will support priority capacity in the COVID-19 response serving as group supervisor to epidemiologists or leading the work of epidemiologists. These positions contribute to the COVID-19 mission by providing a leadership and direction to ateam to support ongoing needs in the agency response for key areas such as: 1) Case, contact, and outbreak investigation 2) Surveillance data and data analytisis 3) Healthcare and/or public health informatics and/or 4) Database development, data automation and linkages. Provide leadership around standardized processes, protocols, and guidance for local health response efforts around the evolving coronavirus response efforts. Some positions may supervise a team of investigation, guidance, and system requirements development staff.

 

  • The Epidemiologist 2 (Non-Medical) positions will support priority capacity in the COVID-19 response by serving as a lead in key functions for a defined area within: 1) Case, contact, and outbreak investigation 2) Surveillance data and data analytisis 3) Healthcare and/or public health informatics and/or 4) Database development, data automation and linkages.  These positions contribute to the COVID-19 mission by providing leadership, development of tasks, and coordination as necessary. 

 

  • The Epidemiologist 1 positions will support priority capacity in COVID-19 response by serving in role to support the efforts focusing on: 1) Case, contact, and outbreak investigation 2) Surveillance data and data analytisis 3) Healthcare and/or public health informatics and/or 4) Database development, data automation and linkages.


The work within the Division of Disease Control and Health Statistics includes statewide surveillance and investigation of more than 60 of Washington State’s approximately 80 notifiable conditions, including planning and response for public health emergencies involving communicable diseases. These responsibilities align directly to Goal 1 of the Agency Strategic Plan (2016-19 Update) that calls to “Protect everyone in Washington from communicable diseases and other health threats.” More specifically, this goal has two relevant objectives: “Improve statewide disease prevention, surveillance, and response systems” and to “Improve operational readiness of public health response resources with emphasis on attending to vulnerable populations.”

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple project positions at each level outlined above.  Grant funding for these project positions is anticipated to last between 24 and 30 months.
