Summary

Employee in this position is responsible for providing first contact and initial response to the public for all Public Health issues. Employee in this position is responsible for providing direct support to Environmental Health professional staff on a wide range of issues and processes associated with Environmental Health programs.

Employee in this position establishes a permanent record that is legally recognized as a prima facie evidence for each birth and death occurring in Island County.  The vital records program produces and releases certified copies of records and information on obtaining the same from vital records in Olympia and from other states and countries for personal needs of individuals, such as obtaining admission to school, securing passports, applying for Social Security benefits and obtaining insurance benefits.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

 

Excellent communication and customer service skills, including telephone communications.

Ability to remain calm and work with compassion in a stressful work environment.

Working knowledge of the laws and regulations pertaining to Environmental Health and vital records.
 
Ability to quickly grasp new information, deal with rapid changes in events, remain calm in stressful situations and relate to various personality styles in a professional manner.
 

Ability to maintain a high standard for accuracy, completeness and efficiency in the preparation of documents and records.

 

Effectively communicate with others for purposes of gathering and relating information.

 

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. 

 

Independently organized and self-motivated to complete required deadlines while simultaneously completing other tasks.

 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office software programs and multiple databases.

Knowledge and understanding of Environmental Health programs.

 

Education, Experience & Certifications

High school diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of office experience required.

Desired experience related to programs and/or health field.

Ability to successfully complete various required training classes and to obtain certificates necessary for functional skills performance, maintenance and improvement.

Must have high-level English writing and verbal communications skills, high-level computer skills.

Previous experience showing proven record of successful customer service support and proficiency working on computers, especially with Microsoft Office programs and databases.
