Description:

This position is with the Department of Labor and Industries’ Insurance Services Division in the Employer Services Unit as part of the Logger Safety Initiative (LSI).  The LSI program is a partnership with the Washington Contract Loggers Association, the Washington Forest Protection Association, WA Department of Natural Resources, and logging industry leaders. The purpose of LSI is to promote occupational safety, reduce fatalities, decrease the frequency and severity of workplace injuries, and increase proper reporting of workers’ compensation premiums.

This Program Specialist opportunity requires an individual to possess strong leadership and analytical skills, demonstrate a driven work ethic, and be adaptable and flexible.  The successful applicant will also be a strong and effective communicator, both written and verbal, with excellent interpersonal skills.  They will be responsible for managing the overall program, supervising one employee, and overseeing the independent safety auditing contract.

Skills/Eligibility:

Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in a related field including planning, contract management, policy analysis, project/program management, or similarly related field.  Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • At least two years’ experience in three of the following:
    • Coordinating or managing a program
    • Problem solving
    • Analytical abilities
    • Relationship-building in developing effective partnerships
    • Communication, both written and verbal
    • Facilitation and public speaking
