This position serves as the Fruit and Vegetable Incentives Program Assistant for the Fruit and Vegetable Incentives Program (FVIP), located in the Healthy Eating Active Living Unit in the Office of Healthy and Safe Communities. This role supports FVIP by coordinating programmatic processes, monitoring and maintain data, and communicating with and participants and stakeholders about program outreach efforts.
 
We work with other organizations across the state to offer incentives that make fruits and vegetables easier to obtain for people who use SNAP/Basic Food/EBT. You will support the Department of Health’s mission to protect and improve all people’s health in Washington State by promoting policy, systems, and environmental changes to improve access to healthy foods at the state and local levels. This position also collaborates with our partners and stakeholders to enhance the health of individuals, families, and communities.
 
The Healthy Eating Active Living Program unit strives to reduce the burden of obesity and chronic disease and increase the proportion of Washingtonians with a healthy weight. We work on equitable and sustainable solutions to improve nutrition, increase physical activity, and support breastfeeding in early learning, schools, communities, worksites, healthcare, and faith-based settings.
 
The duty station for this position is Tumwater, WA.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is currently expected.  When approved to return, the incumbents are expected to report to the duty station for work activities.  Partial telecommuting may be an option subject to supervisory approval.

Duties Include:

  • Work in consultation with Fruit and Vegetable Incentives Program staff and Contracts Consultants to process contracts associated with assigned grants.
  • Assist Fruit and Vegetable Incentives Program staff with ordering and tracking program materials.
  • Analyze data and provide information for budget adjustments in coordination with Fruit and Vegetable Incentives Program staff and Financial Systems Consultants. 
  • Assist the DOH Evaluation staff program staff in collecting and reporting information for the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program grant. 
  • Monitor data for grants and compile it in a format that will comply with state and federal requirements. 
  • Provide support for training and stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitor and respond to emails and phone calls or forward inquiries to other program staff. 
  • Assist in the development and editing of program materials, presentations, and program documents.

This person will have skills in coordinating and monitoring processes, as well as working within a team setting to ensure work stays on track.  
 
Required Qualifications
 

Option 1: An Associate’s degree or higher in Public Health, Health Care Administration, Public/Business Administration, or a closely allied field; and six (6) or more months of experience working in a government health services program.
 
OR
 
Option 2: Three (3) years of experience in a government health services program which includes experience assisting in the development and maintenance of contracts or grants, ensuring compliance with state and federal rules.

 
 
Desired Qualification

  • Four (4) years of experience in a state government health services program. 
  • Demonstrated experience working with grants and contracts.
