The Collaborative Health Studies Coordinating Center (CHSCC) in the Department of Biostatistics is seeking a full-time PhD level Biostatistician to join our collaborative research team. The CHSCC coordinates several large-scale cohort studies, primarily in cardiovascular epidemiology research, and enjoys an excellent reputation for design, coordination, and biostatistical analysis of such studies. This position is primarily with the NHLBI funded Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) project but could also support other studies active at the CHSCC. MESA is a highly collaborative and productive study of the characteristics of subclinical cardiovascular disease and the risk factors that predict progression to clinically overt cardiovascular disease or worsening of the subclinical disease.  The person in this position will actively engage in statistical analyses for papers and will provide data coordinating center leadership for a variety of studies.   The person may also occasionally supervise graduate research assistants or junior analysts in the conduct of analyses.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform independent statistical analyses of data for publication in peer-reviewed journals, collaborate with investigators to develop new proposals to utilize MESA data, and participate in working group conference calls. Work collaboratively with external investigators to co-author papers. There are opportunities for methodologic research and/or first authoring of study papers.

This position requires a solid understanding of applied biostatistics, epidemiologic research methods, and interest in data coordinating center operations.   The person in this position will need to have a high degree of organizational ability, interest in working in varying subject areas, and strong analytic skills.


The UW CHSCC is a nationally recognized leader with over 30 years of experience running multi-site epidemiologic studies.  For 30 years served as DCC of CHS, with new 4 year contract starting Nov 2020. Provided 20 years of service as DCC for MESA which recently began new 5 year contract extending to 2024.
 

  • Statistical analyses and consultation
  • Study working and writing group participation and collaboration
  • Serve as Ancillary Study Principal Investigator providing supervision and consultation Coordinating Center team members
  • Provide supervision and guidance to graduate research assistants or junior staff analysts in their conduct of analyses
  • Planning and development of new manuscript and ancillary study proposals

    REQUIRED:
     
  • PhD in biostatistics or similar quantitative discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of collaborative experience in statistical analysis and an interest in data coordinating center operations
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills.
