Description:

The Housing Inspector supports the Department of Health’s mission to protect and improve the health of residents of the state through professional and technical expertise. This position will perform inspections and investigations of DOH-regulated facilities, for transient accommodation (TA) and temporary worker housing (TWH) facility inspections and complaint investigations.

This recruitment is for two (2) full-time, project, home-based Public Health Advisor 3 (PHA 3) positions within the Division of Environmental Public Health (EPH), Office of Environmental Health & Safety (OEHS) which are currently funded through December 31, 2022. Most of the work of these positions will be completed within King, Pierce and Thurston County.

The mission of OEHS is to improve the health of people in Washington State by reducing and preventing, where possible, human exposures to a variety of environmental hazards and disease pathogens associated with the disposal of wastewater, the food we eat, the schools our children attend, and the places we recreate and overnight.

Required Qualifications
•    Option 1: A Bachelor’s degree in environmental public health, construction or a related field; and three (3) or more years of experience in public health/code enforcement or a similar field.

OR

•    Option 2: Five (5) or more years of experience with public health regulations and/or enforcement of local/state laws and regulations.
 
Desired Qualifications  
•    Four (4) or more years of progressive experience in public health, including one (1) year of consultative, supervisory, administrative or advisory capacity.

•    Knowledge of principles, practices, organization and objectives of environmental health; statutes and rules related to environmental health; federal and state laws and state Board of Health rules related to lodging programs; vector control; construction and educational principles and techniques.

•    Bilingual English/Spanish.
