Our work lives at the intersection of food, education, and health systems. Each year, we directly engage approximately 1500 Thurston County residents of all ages in relationships-based programming centered on growing and preparing good food. We primarily work with young people, families with low incomes, students, seniors experiencing hunger, tribal communities, veterans, active-duty service members, and their families. Position Description

GRuB seeks an adaptable, relationship-oriented, communicator to join our team as the Garden Community Engagement Coordinator. This person will engage and network with partners, GRuB garden recipients and SNAP-Ed to respond to community needs and feedback and work to continue to improve equity and education in the GRuB Garden Project. They will also facilitate GRuB in meeting all training and reporting requirements in this grant funded position. Tasks will include:

  • Leading networking and partnership development with other organizations in the community
  • Working with team to establish three new GGP advisory groups including: BIPOC Advisory Group, LGBTQ+ Advisory Group, and GGP Alumni Advisory Group
  • Completing all grant management tasks including 
    • Participating in required meetings, trainings, and workshops
    • Communicating grant requirements to GRuB Garden Project (GGP) staff
    • Collaborating with program staff to create systems to meet grant requirements and objectives
    • Submitting monthly reports and invoices
  • Coordinating evaluation and record-keeping
  • Supervising garden educator, and assisting with other GGP tasks such as educational workshops and garden building as time allows

  • Skill with multiple forms of nonprofit technology, including experience using databases (CRM), proficiency with Microsoft Office, Facebook, and web-based software applications.
  • Ability to work productively in an open, active office environment (and work remotely until it is safe to gather in larger groups).
  • Resonance with GRuB values, vision, and strategic plan goals. A commitment to social justice work and building a multicultural organization.
  • Spanish language fluency desired.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

The majority of the work is performed in an open office setting, with computer and phone work for extended periods. The Garden Community Engagement Coordinator will support our Garden Project staff and periodically attend and participate in garden building and educational workshops. They should be comfortable working outdoors in all weather, and with periods of physical activity involving standing, walking, bending, and moderate lifting (up to 25 pounds). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with all abilities to perform the primary functions of the role.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, our staff primarily work from home. We prioritize on-site work for people whose job duties require them to be in-person at our office or farm, or who have other barriers to working from home.  We make decisions about programming, office work, and farm operations in alignment with state and county parameters. We acknowledge that a pandemic is a challenging time to start a new position, and will work flexibly with new staff to build relationships, support their integration into the staff team, balance their work and home life, and determine appropriate work location and hours. The position will be heavily computer oriented, especially in the early months when we rely on remote meetings as our primary method for connecting with each other!
