Why does the job exist?

The is a shared position in the Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease unit working with community partners to reduce the burden of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease share many of the same risk factors. This position will identify partners and activities to meet objectives.

How does it get done?

The Health Educator-Advanced is a shared position in the Diabetes and Cardiovascular Health unit that implements activities to meet Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) objectives related to diabetes and cardiovascular health.  This position will primarily work with community partners, including New Mexico’s pueblos, tribes and nations.  Candidate should possess the following skills: ability to write CDC funding applications and reports; develop, monitor, and evaluate contractual agreements;  gather and interpret data; and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external partners. The position works with other programs in the Population and Community Health Bureau to reduce the burden of chronic diseases in New Mexico.

Populations at risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease;  community organizations and the general public

Ideal Candidate

1.) Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Community Health, Health Education, or Social Sciences and a minimum of two years in public health field.
2.) Knowledge of New Mexico’s pueblos, nations and tribes and established relationships with Native American communities.
3.) Experience creating outreach materials, including but not limited to power point presentations, excel spreadsheets, graphs, and reports.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Public Health or Education and two (2) years of experience in a health related field. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.
