Member Duties : The AmeriCorps member will develop and implement a gardening and nutrition education program at UGARden to train teachers, and teach P-12 students in the Athens area by recruiting and training volunteers to both develop a demonstration garden and conduct education-based tours at UGArden. The AmeriCorps member will support local school garden programs by coordinating the providing of materials and resources necessary to construct and plant edible school gardens. The AmeriCorps member will grow and strengthen partnerships with Campus Kitchen, the UGArden, Athens areas schools, and the Senior Hunger Coalition. They will collaborate with AmeriCorps member at these sites, and also support outreach efforts to increase distribution, purchase and consumption of fresh produce to families in need.

UGArden Grows It is an integrated farm-to-school program incorporating gardening, nutrition, and sustainability to improve the diet and health of P-12 children. Activities include educational programing for children and university students, and training for school personnel. The focus is to support and maintain school gardens and related activities, to enhance access to fresh fruits and vegetables, to reduce food waste, and to enhance sustainability, both during the school day, after school, and during the summer.
Housing is NOT not included, but we will help out-of-towners find an affordable place.
Skills/Eligibility:Education level College graduate
Age Requirement Minimum: 18 Maximum: None
Priority will be given to individuals who are recent graduates, have gardening experience, have an academic interest and background in related issues, and have previous volunteer experience with school children. Ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies, work independently, travel (within Clarke County), and utilize social media is required.
