Part-time position, 2 hours per week

CLOSING DATE: July 14, 2021

OPPORTUNITY TYPE: Volunteer

JOB #: 17558

POSTED: June 14, 2021

Description:

Are you looking to get more involved with Beacon Food Forest? Do you want to be part of caring for the land? Do you want an excuse to spend more time outside? If so, please keep on reading.

Beacon Food Forest is looking for more water stewards! Water stewards are absolutely vital to us. They care for a small portion of the food forest over the course of the summer, watering once or twice a week and weeding their area as desired. They get to grow a real and deep connection with the land that they steward and watch as it changes and thrives over the course of a season.

Being a steward means that you have a chance to take a step outside of your home, which can feel especially liberating after the past year. This summer looks like it is shaping up to be a hot one, so having more committed volunteers will be more important than ever. The food forest is going to need water and care in order to keep doing what we do.

Stewardship is a relatively short time commitment for you. It generally only takes one or two hours a week. Being on-site so frequently means you will know when things are ready to be harvested too, which can be a side bonus. Being a steward is a wonderful chance to get involved with your community and learn more about caring for your local ecosystem.

All watering takes place completely outdoors. You are free to coordinate with other stewards or volunteers if you want company, but stewarding can also be a solo activity if you’d like it to be. Stewardship is also one of the great ways to regularly engage with the community at Beacon Food Forest!
