OPPORTUNITY TYPE: Job

JOB #: 17659

POSTED: July 15, 2021

Description:

Cumberland County Food Security Council’s (CCFSC) mission is to increase food access for vulnerable people in our County by working to initiate, strategize and innovate solutions to hunger. Our work serves communities, families and people working to solve their own economic challenges and working to build food security. CCFSC convenes the Portland Public Schools Food Security Task Force which is a group of stakeholders interested in supporting, bolstering, and addressing gaps in food security work happening in local schools.

The overall goal of the Food Fuels Learning initiative is to increase food security for Portland students and families. It is critical to coordinate food programs to maximize efficiency and access all nutrition resources available to our community. The AmeriCorps VISTA member will develop digital and physical infrastructure to allow more students to take advantage of summer and school year food programs. Other responsibilities include strengthening the volunteer infrastructure and supporting our efforts to build food security in public schools by representing the CCFSC in local committees.

CCFSC is providing three opportunities to do meaningful work in Maine’s food system.

Our Local Food Coordinator VISTA manages a portfolio of interesting projects including the Cumberland County Gleaning Initiative.

Our Food Fuels Learning Coordinator VISTA works with Portland Public Schools to implement our innovative whole school food system project.

Our Maine Food Justice Initiative VISTA will be coordinating the development of a new network working toward racial justice in Maine’s food system.

All our VISTAs will contribute toward our statewide effort to End Hunger in Maine by 2030.

These are all great opportunities for professional development while becoming integral to healing our food system in beautiful Maine.
