Continuing Education Coordinator - UW Department of Health Systems and Population Health

LOCATION: Seattle, Wa

CLOSING DATE: August 22, 2021

OPPORTUNITY TYPE: Job

JOB #: 17697

POSTED: July 22, 2021

Description:

The Northwest Center for Public Health Practice (NWCPHP), located in the UW Department of Health Systems and Population Health, has an exciting opportunity on the Training and Outreach Team for a full-time Continuing Education Coordinator.

The Continuing Education Coordinator will support training and learning activities aligned with NWCPHP’s mission of promoting excellence in public health by linking academia and the practice community. This work will involve co-creating and managing a variety of training activities for local, state, and tribal public health professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

A primary component of this role will be to help re-envision the development and implementation of and recruitment for one of NWCPHP’s flagship programs, the Public Health Management Certificate, to launch in 2022. The position will also work collaboratively with other members of the Center’s e-learning, outreach, and evaluation teams in responding to requests for training and technical assistance both from within the University and from partner organizations around the region. This work includes assessing training needs; working with subject matter experts, instructional designers, and graphic designers to develop learning materials that address skill gaps; and supporting evaluation activities to improve learner satisfaction and agency programs. This position requires a high level of initiative, independent thinking, and the ability to manage program and project activities from beginning to end. The Continuing Education Coordinator reports to the Training and Outreach Manager.

As part of the University of Washington School of Public Health, NWCPHP fosters training, research, and evaluation in collaboration with state, local, and tribal public health and prevention system partners in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We are engaging in a range of activities to rethink our organizational culture and become a more diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist center. We recognize that we have a lot of room to grow in this area and are approaching this work with humility and a commitment to being a ‘learning organization’. All staff are encouraged and supported to participate in this work. Key to this position is being able to articulate an understanding of racial equity and structural racism and how they apply to public health training and workforce development. In addition, the ideal candidate should demonstrate empathy for multiple groups and identities, and employ self-awareness and compassion in interpersonal interactions with faculty, staff, scholars, and other external partners.

Housed in the School of Public Health, the UW Department of Health Systems and Population Health is a dynamic academic and research department with the mission of working with partners in public health and health care to prepare leaders, design solutions, and conduct innovative research that is translated into practice and policy. The Department is steadfast in its efforts to improve and promote the health of all populations, and staff contribute daily and directly to the work of faculty, students, researchers and other staff, providing support and expertise to the Department’s common cause.
