Position Description
The HaSET (“happiness” in Amharic”) Maternal and Child Health Research Program at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research fellow with an interest in reproductive, perinatal, and pediatric epidemiology and maternal and child health.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have opportunities to work on large-scale datasets, including cohort and surveillance data from low- and middle-income countries. The successful candidate will develop and extend skills in statistical analysis, create analytical frameworks, develop protocols, monitor data quality, and collaborate on manuscripts and grant proposals. The fellow will focus on answering questions related to pregnancy and child health outcomes and causes of morbidity and mortality. Research may include developing risk stratification models, causal inference methods, and analyzing large datasets. There is opportunity for training and mentoring students at Harvard and trainees at partner institutions in Ethiopia.
The position is based in Boston with frequent travel to Ethiopia. Commitment is for two years with the potential for renewal.
Basic Qualifications
Education Requirements
- A doctoral degree, such as Ph.D., Sc.D., Dr.PH. in epidemiology, statistics, data science or a related field.
Experience Requirements
- 2+ years research experience and independent data analysis
Technical Skill Requirements
- Knowledge of study design, sampling approaches and sample size estimation, descriptive and advanced statistical methods such as longitudinal data analysis and survival analysis.
- Experience analyzing prospective cohort and health surveillance system data.
- Knowledge of STATA.
Additional Qualifications
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of causal inference methods and risk modeling.
- Experience managing large complex datasets.
- Knowledge of R.
- Experience working with electronic data capture systems (e.g., ODK, REDCAP, DHIS2).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with collaborators, stakeholders, and research staff.
- Research experience in global maternal and child health particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
Additional Information: The position is available immediately and applications will be considered as they arrive.
