The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a center in the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health. I-TECH has projects in more than 20 countries, and its worldwide staff work with local ministries of health, universities, non-governmental organizations, medical facilities, and other partners to support efficient, well-ordered health care systems that provide high quality care to all citizens.

We have a great opportunity for a Research Assistant (RA) to perform quantitative and qualitative analyses of both HIV and cervical cancer screening program data. Come join the Zimbabwe program as we work to maximize the delivery of high quality and client-oriented HIV clinical services in the public sector. With funding from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, I-TECH through a consortium of eight partner organizations supports nearly 800 clinics in Zimbabwe. The RA will be joining a highly welcoming and experienced team.

All activities described below will be done in close collaboration with staff based in Harare and Seattle, and will require frequent communication via calls and email, including early morning calls approximately 1-2 times per week. This position can be done remotely with regular meetings at the Ninth and Jefferson Building (NJB) on the Harborview Medical Center campus in Seattle, Washington.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct analysis of questionnaire data including data management, performing statistical analyses, and summarizing results in table and graphical form
  • Participate in a qualitative analysis team, including development of a codebook, coding of in-depth interview transcripts on cervical cancer screening and treatment, and contributing to thematic analysis
  • Conduct literature review for selected topics related to HIV prevention and care
  • Conduct secondary data analysis of program data to explore trends and factors influencing programmatic results
  • Assist with results dissemination, including conference abstracts, reports, program briefs, manuscripts, and slide decks
  • Regularly meet in person/over Zoom to plan, collaborate, and review deliverables

Requirements:

  • Current PhD or MPH student in epidemiology, biostatics, implementation science, global health or related field enrolled at the University of Washington.
  • Demonstrated experience with a statistical analysis software package (Stata or R).
  • Demonstrated experience with managing data and generating graphs and figures in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with qualitative data management software (eg., Atlas.ti, dedoose, NVivo).
  • Experience working in team settings in an international capacity.
