Reporting to the Office of Health Professions’ (OHP)  Deputy Director,  this Pharmacist Supervisor supports the Department of Health’s mission to protect and improve the health of people in Washington State by providing professional and technical expertise in pharmacy related facility inspections within the Office of Health Professions and the Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission (Commission).  

This position supervises the pharmacy inspection unit and is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance of pharmacy personnel and pharmaceutical firms.  

The position:

  • Hires, assigns work, evaluates, and supervises a team of pharmacist inspectors tasked with inspecting pharmaceutical firms under the authority of the Commission.  
  • Assists staff with complex inspections.
  • Serves as a technical resource to staff, other DOH personnel, and to customers and other working partners/community collaborators.
  • Assists with policy development, review, and implementation.
  • Assists with the development of unit performance measures consistent with agency and OILS measures as well as ensuring the work unit meets the performance measures. 

OHP provides inspection services for the Commission.  This includes evaluating complaints of unprofessional conduct against health care providers and facilities, investigating complaints against health care providers and pharmacy facilities, conducting inspections for the Commission, and assisting with rulemaking, legislative activities, and policy issues.   

The Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission was established in 1891 and regulates the practice of pharmacy and the distribution, manufacturing, and delivery of pharmaceuticals within and into the state. The commission protects and promotes public health and safety by issuing licenses, registrations, and certifications to qualified persons and entities, responding to complaints or reports of unprofessional conduct, and inspecting pharmaceutical entities.

This is a permanent, full-time Pharmacist Supervisor position located within the Office Health Professions.

The duty station for this position is in Tumwater, WA. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, telework (mobile-work) is currently expected, although some in-office time is required. When approved to return, the incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance including telework and reporting to the Tumwater, Washington duty station for work activities, if needed.
