Description:

The Nutrition and Physical Activity Traineeship is an eight-week program available for university students from populations (racial and ethnic) that have been historically underrepresented who are enrolled in a degree listed below as a university junior, senior, master’s, or doctorate level student, or a dietetic intern who are interested in a career in public health. A goal of the traineeship is to help build a more diverse public health workforce that will be more reflective of the population served.

The traineeship will teach entry-level public health professional competencies related to nutrition and physical activity. The traineeship requires 240 hours to be completed in 8 weeks. A fellowship grant is awarded to the chosen students during the 8 weeks; $5,280 for undergraduate students and $6,000 for graduate students and dietetic interns. The funds received are to be used for tuition and fees required for enrollment or attendance at the educational institution, or for fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at the educational institution. The traineeship does not provide funding for housing, transportation, or relocation.

Skills/Eligibility:

1. Represent a historically underrepresented population (racial and ethnic)
2. A U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or U.S. National
3. Currently enrolled, pursuing a degree in nutrition, exercise science/kinesiology, or related degree such as foods, wellness, fitness, or physical education degree (major or minor) in a United States of America (USA) university program which is physically located in the United States (US) or US territory. Transcript required, official or unofficial
4. Classification of undergraduate student (junior or senior), graduate student (master’s or doctorate), or dietetic internship student
5. Have a minimum of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale of all major courses
6. Possess public health/community experience, volunteer or paid
7. Have a valid government ID.
