Duties

  • You will prepare and present Technical Division training programs in Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Toxicology, Ventilation, Protective Equipment, or other occupational health topics as necessary.
  • You will be aAssigned program(s) to manage, researches and resolves industrial hygiene problems as assigned by Technical Division Branch Head and the Lead Industrial Hygienist.
  • You will research and resolve industrial hygiene problems as assigned by the Code 08.1.
  • You will develop methods, techniques, and instrumentation for field sampling and sample analysis within the Branch; the product developed may become standard procedure at other naval activities.
  • You will make contact with Shipyard managers, supervisors, employee representatives and employees to enable evaluating the occupational environment.
  • You will conduct field sampling to evaluate potential or existing occupational health hazards
  • You will calibrate and operate a wide variety of scientific instrumentation used for evaluating occupational health problems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs; analyzing and evaluating occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazards is not completely understood; assisting in devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution, and change in work procedures and drafting industrial hygiene policy and guidance for occupational health and safety professionals.
