As a Laboratory Technician 1 (LT1), you will:

  • Prepare laboratory media.
  • Decontaminate laboratory waste.
  • Clean and prepare laboratory glassware.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies and consumable inventory, receive packages containing specimens, and samples– ensuring these goods and services are available to Public Health Laboratory (PHL) staff in a timely manner.

These duties must be performed accurately, expeditiously, and in a safe manner to protect the safety of employees and the public.  This position will rotate through the Support Services Units:   Glassware, Dish Room, Mailroom, Kit Prem, Media, and Stockroom performing essential routine work that must be completed accurately and in a timely manner.

 

When assigned to Media, the employee will focus their time primarily in media and help in other areas as time permits.  Once cross-trained in Media, the employee may be designated as back-up media staff in the event of staff shortage. Remaining team members will focus on completing the work of all the other units.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing microbiological media and chemical solutions for specimen testing and other duties as assigned.
  • Receiving and processing packages related to procurements and purchase orders and maintaining stock inventory.
  • Cleaning and drying laboratory glassware, plastic ware, and other laboratory supplies.
  • Inspecting and preparing laboratory glassware, plastic ware and other lab supplies for use in PHL Lab units and media preparation.
  • Preparing specimen collection kits and laboratory supply orders.
  • Sorting and distributing inbound mail and preparing outbound mail and packages.
  • Separates and delivers specimens to Specimen Receiving Unit or other designated locations within the PHL.

The duty station for this position is in Shoreline, WA. This position is required to have an on-site presence to perform the main scope of duties, functions, and responsibilities of the position.
