As a Staff Toxicologist you will have the opportunity to:

  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations and synthesis of information related to chemical hazards found in consumer products, potential chemical exposures from these products, and adverse impacts that may result from such exposures in order to support the implementation of the Safer Consumer Products (SCP) regulations
  • Utilize expertise in public health, toxicity, and environmental data interpretation to perform assessments of human and ecological hazards of toxic chemicals in consumer products
  • Independently prepare, review, and generate technical memoranda to support SCP decision-making processes, including product prioritization, Alternatives Analyses, and modifications to the Candidate Chemical list
  • Evaluate potential human and ecological exposure pathways to chemicals in consumer products to ensure the comprehensive consideration of multiple environmental media (e.g. soil, water, air, biota) and sensitive subpopulations or species in order to support SCP decisions for product prioritization or the evaluation of alternatives
  • Develop, refine, or evaluate conceptual models for exposure
Skills/Eligibility:

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

  • Writing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in exposure modeling of environmental contaminants
  • Research and fact-finding skills and can exercise good judgment
  • Ability to work cooperatively and function effectively in a team
  • Ability and willingness to handle complex technical issues, multiple activities/projects, and urgent deadlines
  • Ability to use word and data processing computer programs to support and accomplish technical work
  • Ability to work within the limits of the program’s/office’s/state’s policies/procedures/resources to implement toxicological and environmental health practices and procedures
