The Opportunity
 
Reporting to the TB Program Supervisor, the Epidemiologist 1 compiles, maintains, analyzes, and interprets data relating to tuberculosis surveillance under the direction of the TB Program Supervisor. This position provides TB-related public health information and consultative services to state and local public health partners as it relates to disease surveillance and is responsible for tuberculosis data quality in Washington.
 
The mission of the TB Program is to facilitate the elimination of TB in Washington through, (1) finding and treating infectious TB disease, and (2) identifying, evaluating and treating high-risk populations.
 
The Office of Communicable Disease Epidemiology (OCDE) is responsible for statewide surveillance and investigation of more than 70 of Washington State’s approximately 80 notifiable conditions, including planning and response for public health emergencies involving communicable diseases.
 
This is a full-time permanent Epidemiologist 1 (Epi 1) position located at the Public Health Laboratories in Shoreline, Washington
 
What will you be doing? – Duties include
 
  • Manages data for the Tuberculosis Program.
  • Liaises with local health jurisdictions regarding data quality and completeness.
  • Analyzes tuberculosis (TB) data for local health jurisdictions and provides program monitoring reports.
  • Works with TB Program staff and local health jurisdictions to count cases of TB in the Washington Disease Reporting System (WDRS).
  • Analyzes statewide TB data for Washington State to meet federal reporting requirements.
  • Prepares TB Program Annual Report.
  • Performs TB-related surveillance and analytic activities.
  • Performs ad hoc data analyzes of TB data as needed to assist with program and policy development.
  • Responsible for data quality across data management systems.
  • Works with DOH subject matter experts, local health jurisdictions and community partners to compile, maintain and analyze health data and reports using statistical methods for program evaluation activities for populations at risk for TB.

Required Qualifications
 

  • A Master’s degree in Epidemiology; OR a Master’s degree in Public Health WHICH INCLUDES 12 graduate quarter hours (500 level or above) in epidemiology, and 12 graduate quarter hours in biostatistics.
  • One (1) or more years of experience in epidemiology research and analysis.

 
Desired Qualification
 

  • Two (2) or more years of experience working in a public health agency or similar setting with demonstrated experience working in the communicable disease epidemiology field.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following:
    • Conducting data analysis of large and complex datasets.
    • Working with statistical software (e.g., R, SAS, Stata, SQL).
    • Working in tuberculosis surveillance and data analysis.
