Research Interests

My research interest is in the genetic and molecular epidemiology of cancer prevention with focus on nutrition. I am particularly interested in studying the impact on cancer risk of common genetic variations in nutritional pathways and interrelation with diet (gene-diet interactions) as well as genetic variants across the entire genome (genome-wide associations studies). In addition to questionnaire data, I am increasingly applying molecular tools to assess dietary exposures and intermediate biomarkers. Studies that I am currently working on include (but are not restricted to) genome-wide association studies for colon and breast cancer; selenium, genetic variations in selenoenzymes and risk of prostate and colorectal cancer; anti-oxidative vitamins and prostate cancer; use of vitamin and mineral supplement and risk of prostate and colorectal cancer, molecular markers of insulin resistance, variations in insulin resistance related genes and risk of colorectal adenoma; vitamin D, calcium and variations in related genes and prostate and colorectal cancer. On these projects, I am working together with investigators of different disciplines, and I am seeking to expand these multidisciplinary collaborations to enhance research on molecular and genetic profiling in population-based studies.
