The statistical analyst provides high-level professional analytic support in research activities at the Center for Health Systems Effectiveness Research (CHSE). The Center is devoted to transforming health systems through actionable cross-disciplinary and collaborative research. The analyst will participate in the design, data management, analysis, and dissemination of findings in health services research and program evaluations.

Major components of the work include:

  • Collaboration with Principal Investigators to design, manage, implement and interpret advanced statistical analyses focused on healthcare expenditures, utilization and quality
  • Management and analysis of large quality measures database constructed with health insurance claims from Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial carriers from multiple states
  • Identification/incorporation of other publicly available data sources to support research goals
  • Rigorous documentation of methods and adherence to principles of reproducibility of results
  • Innovation and problem-solving at all stages of research
  • Contribution to development of manuscripts and other reports via writing, interpretation of results, creation of compelling data visualizations, and editing
  • Coordination and management of a diverse set of research activities on multiple projects
  • A commitment to continuing education and self-improvement as well as participation in the cross-education of fellow analysts via trainings and presentations
  • Performing other duties as requested by the Supervisor or Center Director


  • Master’s degree with major courses in relative field (Statistics/Biostatistics/Economics/Health Services Research) and 3 years of relevant research experience; OR Bachelor’s degree with
    major courses in relative field and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of statistical theory and hypothesis testing, quantitative analysis methods and database management techniques
  • Working knowledge of public health or issues relevant to health services research and health program/policy evaluation
  • Experience working with and maintaining large data sets using any combination of R, SAS, SQL, Stata
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in making decisions, and maintain thorough documentation of the decision-making process
  • Exemplary communication skills and ability to effectively present research findings to diverse audiences within and outside OHSU and academia
  • Strong commitment to rigorous research methods, accuracy of findings, and reproducibility of results


  • Demonstrated experience in claims data management and analysis, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance data
  • Database management experience
  • Experience working in a Windows Server environment
  • Experience working in Linux/Unix environment
  • Knowledge of Medicaid reform, the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) and healthcare payment reform
