Purpose of Position:
This position will provide epidemiology support to the Department of Health’s, Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Program, by providing capacity to ensure the quality of HAI surveillance and prevention. Incumbent will conduct independent, on-site, infection control assessment in healthcare facilities, as part of a larger effort to improve infection control infrastructure and practices in the healthcare system, and respond to outbreaks or antimicrobial resistant infections. As a member of an interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists, the successful candidate will work to improve surveillance activities to monitor antimicrobial resistance and emergence of resistance. Incumbent will conduct case investigations and interviews, perform core surveillance activities and serve as part of the day call team. Primary activities will include, conducting daily reviews of electronic laboratory data and other case reporting methods to identify potential HAI or antimicrobial resistance cases, clusters or outbreaks; implementing appropriate public health response and containment strategies; engaging targeted settings of care in infection prevention activities; medical chart review and abstraction; improving surveillance, response and reporting initiatives by the formulation and dissemination of written protocols for reporting, case investigation and laboratory testing for both internal and external partners; and conducting infection prevention assessments. Ensure HAI surveillance and data collection practices are being uniformly implemented in order to achieve comprehensive reporting and collection of surveillance data.
