Description:

The Office of Environmental Health’s (OEH) goal is to improve human health, promote wellbeing, and prevent injury and illnesses through healthy community environments. This position requires skills to identify and evaluate environmental hazards in air, water, soil, food, and other environmental media; and provide technical assistance to limit exposures to those hazardous agents. The Staff Environmental Health Specialist coordinates grant related reporting requirements and work plan activities for the EPA IGAP and EPA Brownfield grants. General duties of the position include planning, implementation and evaluation of OEH program policies and activities on a day-to-day basis. The Staff Environmental health Specialist serves as the lead advisor of the OEH Program Manager (position supervisor) and performs Acting duties on occasions.

Skills/Eligibility:

Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health or related field, and at least 2 years of work experience in the practice of environmental health. Preferred applicants will possess a NEHA Registered Environmental health Specialist credential. If applicants do not already possess and REHS credential, they wil be required to achieve one within a year from the date of hire. Applicants should possess a strong familiarity of regional, state, and federal environmental laws and statues applicable to tribal environmental programs, including SDWA, CWA, CAA, NEPA, RCRA, CERCLA, SARA/EPCRA, OPA, TSCA, and CZM. Applicants should also possess an ability to speak with clarity in public forums and to a wide-range of audiences; and have a positive attitude with results oriented work ethic.
