Career Services at SPH

Schedule a 1:1 Career Appointment

The SPH Career Team is here to serve all students in the School of Public Health. Our office, located in the G-120 suite of the Hans Rosling Center for Population Health, holds 1-on-1 career advising sessions, where you can make a 30 minute online or in-person appointment between 1:00-3:00 pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. If those time blocks do not work for you, you are free to reach out to dwade@uw.edu to schedule an appointment. Click here to schedule an appointment with Daren.

We encourage you to make an appointment to discuss career, graduate school, or job search questions directly with your department advisor, staff, or faculty mentors; contact them for help. In addition, the University of Washington Career and Internship Center at Mary Gates Hall Room 134 also offers appointments with their knowledgeable career coaches. You can visit the UW Career and Internship Center website for additional career content or to make an appointment. UW CIS offers free headshots with their IRIS Photobooth and has other online tools you can access for career exploration, skills development, and support.

SPH Career Series, SPH Career Month and Virtual Career Fair

In addition to the SPH comprehensive Careers website, we also offer collaborative events organized with SPH Career Group colleagues and other campus and non-campus partners, the SPH Career Series. Events are held throughout the year to help you develop important job search skills, strategies, identify your career goals and explore opportunities for jobs in the field or graduate school. We offer a resume clinic in the fall and mock interview opportunities in winter and spring where you can get feedback directly from a faculty, staff, or community volunteer regarding your job search materials and practice your interviewing skills. Information about current career events can be found on the “Trumba” calendar, through email, the UW Insider and posted regularly to the SAS (Student & Academic Services) Canvas site.

Each April we host an SPH Career Month full of events designed for you. In that month we hold a "Virtual Public Health Career Fair” on the Handshake platform where students can attend presentations or schedule a 1:1 appointment with over 50 organizations looking to hire public health graduates. Past participants included the CDC, Washington Department of Health, Snohomish Health Department and representatives from government agencies, and local non-profit organizations.

SPH Mentorship Program

Each year we offer undergraduates the opportunity to be matched with current graduate students to have opportunities to learn from their experiences and develop connections with students who are further along in their career path. Recruitment for mentors and mentees and matching takes place in the fall quarter and students meet in-person or virtual throughout the winter and spring quarters.

If you are looking for current opportunities, please visit our Jobs and Internships page.
