The Departments of Epidemiology and Behavioral and Social Sciences at the Brown University
School of Public Health invite applicants for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate
position that will be supported by two NIH-funded R01 grants (MPIs: Drs. Chanelle Howe and
Akilah Dulin). These grants aim in part to assess (1) whether resilience at the individual,
interpersonal, or neighborhood levels facilitate better HIV- or cardiovascular health-related
outcomes and (2) the potential role of resilience in addressing persistent disparities or differences
in health by race, ethnicity, or sex.

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will receive mentorship and training from Drs. Howe and
Dulin along with collaborators in risk and resilience from a multilevel perspective, causal
inference methods, and conducting health disparities research in the context of HIV and
cardiovascular health studies. The successful applicant will be affiliated with two vibrant
interdisciplinary research centers at Brown, the Centers for Epidemiology and Environmental
Health and the Center for Health Equity Research. These centers conduct state-of-the-art
research in the areas of HIV, cardiovascular health, and health disparities. The Postdoctoral
Research Associate will lead or assist in the publication and presentation of study findings
developed from grant aims which includes completing data analysis (e.g., data harmonization
and inverse probability weighted marginal structural models). The position is for a minimum
term of one-year, with the expectation of renewal.

Required and preferred qualifications:
- A doctoral degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field is required
- Knowledge of SAS is required
- Experience analyzing complex longitudinal cohort data is preferred
- Excellent communication (i.e., verbal and written) and collaborative skills are preferred
- Experience with the application of causal inference methods is preferred

The preferred start date for the position is February 1, 2019; however a later start date can be
